The city of Kouvola offers a diverse range of activities for children, youth, and families spending their winter break in week 9.

Family Morning Events and Outdoor Activities

  • The Kuovi perhepuisto (Kuovi family park) is open to all families on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday from 9 am to 4 pm, and on Thursday from 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Father and Child Evening at Kuovi on Wednesdays from 5 pm to 6:30 pm.
  • Family morning events at Naukio Daycare Center, Keltakangas Family Center, and Valkeala Daycare Center, along with outdoor activities with the family at Keltakangas, Kuovi Family Park, Koria Pioneer Park, and Vataja Park.

Big Game Day at NuortenPaikka and main library on Tuesday, February 27th

  • Role-playing trial runs from 1 pm to 3 pm at the main library’s MediaHouse (Medimaja). Limited to the first five participants. No prior experience in role-playing required. ”Thieves of Earfell” is a short adventure using Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition rules.
  • Retrogaming and gaming competition from 1 pm to 6 pm. Remember the first Super Mario or Donkey Kong? Come try retro games and participate in the gaming competition. The winner of the day will be rewarded.
  • Board gaming from 1:30 pm to 6 pm at NuPa NuortenPaikka YouthSpot (Kouvolankatu 28). Volunteers will be present to play games together, and games will be chosen collectively without the need to know the rules beforehand.
  • Pokemon card games from 4 pm to 6 pm at NuPa NuortenPaikka YouthSpot. The card games will be facilitated by the Paketti group.

Movie Night at the Main Library on Thursday, February 29, 2024

Joy of Movement

  • Indoor adventure course at Valkealatalo on Monday, February 26th, from 10 am to 11:30 am. Includes a versatile obstacle course and gaming area. With an adult for children under 5 years old.
  • Badminton shifts for families at Valkealatalo from February 26th to 28th. Shifts can be reserved at Valkealatalo’s sports hall on February 26th from 12 pm to 3 pm and on February 27th-28th from 9 am to 2 pm (one reservation/group). The sports hall is divided into three sections. Shifts can be reserved starting from February 19th via Children’s Sports – City of Kouvola.
  • Ball games and badminton shifts for families on Tuesday, February 27th, at Kuusankosken Urheilutalo. Shifts can be reserved at Kuusankoski Urheilutalo on February 27th from 9 am to 2 pm (one reservation/group). The sports hall is divided into three sections. Shifts can be reserved starting from February 19th via Children’s Sports – City of Kouvola.
  • FreeFriday for under 18-year-olds at swimming pools on Friday, March 1st. Under 18-year-olds can swim for free at Inkeroisten, Kuusankoski, Urheilupuisto, and Valkeala swimming pools. Opening hours Swimming Pools – City of Kouvola

Luolamiehen Uni – Cave Man’s Dream – musician Esa Kotilainen’s audio work plays until February 29th in the park of Kouvolatalo around artist Altti Heiskanen’s Moose sculpture, daily from 7 am to 10 pm. Soundscapes in Kouvolatalo Park – Poikilo

Stuffed Animal Night at Kouvola City Museum on Friday, February 23rd. You can bring your own stuffed animal to the museum shop on Friday from 5 pm to 6 pm, during which time admission to the art museum and city museum is free. Temporary Setting exhibition at the Poikilo Art Museum features a comprehensive body of work by Hanna Peräkylä, who was chosen as the visual artist of Kouvola for the years 2023–2025. Peräkylä’s latest works delve into the human relationship with the environment, consumption, and memory. Changes in Public Transport during Winter Break

During primary school holidays, school day bus services (routes numbered 20 and above and departures marked with ’koulp.’ on routes 1-15) will not operate. Note that vocational school holiday dates may differ from primary school holiday dates. The Kouvolan reittiopas (digitransit.fi) route planner is up to date even on public holidays and during holiday periods.
